Are you too busy to hit the gym? Don’t worry. The good news is you don’t have to spend hours exercising to maintain a healthy lifestyle. These activities help you burn calories without you even knowing about it! You’ll be surprised to see how much they can burn!

Although this may not be great for your purse, you can burn up to 243 calories an hour by simply pushing a shopping cart around. Try not to get carried away and focus on healthy food choices! Bag and put those groceries away yourself, and you will burn even more. Not only are you being active, but you’re using your muscles too!

If you haven’t already, consider making sex an everyday activity. Depending on how kinky and active you are with your partner, you can burn approximately 144 calories per half-hour of sex. The more you engage with your partner, the more calorie burn you’ll receive! 😉

BONUS: Even 30 minutes of passionate kissing can help you burn as many as 60 calories!

Those hours you spend wiping, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping and doing other similar chores, will not only get your house clean but also turn you lean! An average person burns around 100 calories for each activity they do. For example, vacuuming can burn as much as 170 calories! So put some good tunes on, add in some moves and burn those extra few calories!

Despite all the boozing and burgers, it turns out we actually burn off a staggering 9,000 calories during a three-day music event.

Tech company Withings have found out that the average festival goer will spend up to eight hours dancing per day, burning an average of 400-700 calories during each act! That’s almost enough to compensate for drinking 53847 cans of cider.

  • Twerking – 390cal/hour
  • Lifting someone on your shoulders – 408 cal/hour
  • Calf raises (for all the shorties standing behind a giant) – 204 cal/hour
  • Jumping up & down – 625 cal/hour

With all the dancing and jumping combined, you’re well on your way to a summer beach body!

STAIRS

It’s very tempting to just wait for the elevator, but you’ll do your health a favor through a commitment to climbing the stairs! For 10 minutes of stair climbing, you can burn  92 calories. Although this may seem low to some, standing in the elevator for a minute burns only 1 or 2 calories.

TIP: Take a break from your work, and allow your eyes to rest from your computer screen by taking few minutes to go up and down the stairs.

Yes, that’s right, sleep.

The promise of losing weight in your sleep may sound like a joke but the truth is, your body does burn calories at night. Calories burned during sleep are used to sustain vital functions in the body. A person who weighs 150 will burn at least 95 calories per hour, and if you weight 115 you will burn 42 calories.  

You burn more calories when you are in a deep sleep than when you are just lying in bed reading. This is because your brain is highly active during this stage. Plus, during REM sleep your internal temperature spikes, which means your body is working harder to produce heat.

GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK

Of course, it is still important to try to squeeze exercise into your everyday life. But on the days you simply aren’t able to hit the gym or lack the time to workout, don’t be too hard on yourself. All the other activities that keep you busy, are all still benefiting your health!

  1. YASSSS! FINALLY! A scientific reason for me to get more sleep! I figure if I get at least 8 hours, which would be a MIRACLE, that’s like 800 calories burned! Yes! So on the weekends, I have EVEN MORE motivation to stay in bed all day! Plus, when my hubby and I wake up, we can get some more exercise in the BEST way possible! Thank you so much for this article!

  2. Now those are some activities that I like to do and more likely to do them. Not exactly thrilled about the cleaning one, but at least I get more out of it than a clean house. I am wondering who honestly gets 30 minutes of intimate time really, but we can dream.

  3. Well some of these I can just cross of the list of my personal exercises like twerking, lifting someone on your shoulders, and jumping up and down (cause I’m top heavy ).

  4. Very practical thoughts you have mentioned here. Well, I am also a health conscious so whenever I work out I keep these things in my mind. Calories you burn in a day only depends on these factors: 1) the amount of exercise you performed; 2) your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR); and, 3) to a lesser degree, digestion of food. Every day that number may be varied, it depends on your activities. Generally, I use online calculators to know how much calories I have burned after exercise. As per my mind set, If you want to get rid of excess body fat, you really need to know how many calories you burn in a day and also prepare the timetable for the convenience.

    People always think yoga, hard exercise, gym, etc will help them to maintain their body. But as per my perspective, it’s not necessary. We can find those practical ways for work out. Enjoyed your article.
